Reagan Run, Petunia Festival and More!


Annual Reagan Run 5K Registration is heating up! -- More than 1,500 participants are expected for the annual Reagan Run 5K on Saturday, July 7 in downtown Dixon. The traditional race that is part of Dixon's Petunia Festival draws runners and walkers alike and has developed into the premier 5K race in the Sauk Valley area. The race is a benefit that helps several groups in Dixon including: The Dixon Athletic Boosters, Dixon Main Street, Dixon Park District and the Dixon YMCA Strong Kids. Online registration is available until Thursday, July 5 at www.getmeregistered.com or www.reaganrun.com. Early race packet pickup will be Friday, July 6 from 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. at the Dixon Family YMCA. PETUNIA FESTIVAL HELPERS NEEDED!
- July 4.  We need VIP parking from 6:00 - 10:00 (2 slots).  We also need 4 gate people (2 people per gate) from 7:30 - 10:30
- July 7 (Saturday).  We need VIP parking from 8:30 - 11:00 (2 slots).  1 gate from 12:30- 4:00, 2 gate from 4:00 - 7:30 and 3 beer tickets from 8:00 - 11:30.

Dixon Beer Festival
What a great event the Dixon Beer Festival was this past weekend. Great work by the Crystal Cork and all of their vendors and volunteers for putting on this great event for the city!

Musical Fridays Presented by Community State Bank

July Shop Talk -- The July Shop Talk has been cancelled so that we can celebrate at the Petunia Festival! The monthly merchants meeting will resume on Tuesday, August 7 at 5 p.m. at Books on First.

July 18 -- Lunch and Learn at the Post House Ballroom at Noon. This month's speaker is Shawn Ortgiesen from the City of Dixon. Catered by Basil Tree. Cost is just $3.

July 28 -- Midsummer's Jubilee is set for 6-11 p.m. on July 28 on the Riverfront in downtown Dixon. The evening will feature music by the Rock River Jazz Band and dinner by Mama Cimino's. The evening also will feature a live and silent auction. Proceeds from the event will go toward the Riverfront's boat dock project and Dixon Main Street's John Dixon statue project. Tickets are $35 per person or a sponsored table of 8 for $280. For more information, call 815-288-2308.

A few quick notes from around the community. . .
June 30 -- In the Pink Dance at the Post House Ballroom/LCCOA. The dance is the official kick-off for the Petunia Festival. Cost is $12 per person or $20 per couple. Come to the Petunia Festival’s kick-off dance sponsored by the Lee County Council on Aging! Phaze band will provide music for your  dancing pleasure. Heavy hors d’oeuvres will be provided and there will be a cash bar. Flower pots painted by local artists and filled with petunias, will be sold by silent auction during the evening with proceeds benefiting the Senior Center and the Petunia Festival. Pots are on display and early bids will be accepted at the Dixon Senior Center. Those wearing pink will be placed in a drawing for a wonderful prize! Dress code is casual or dress-up. Cost is $12 per person, $20 per couple. Tickets are available at the Dixon Senior Center, and at the door.  Call 815-288-9236 for more information.

July 4 -- Inaugural Firecracker Bicycle Race 9:30 am start time/ Registration: 8:30 to 9:15 am Where: Washington School Course: Around Washington School Cost: Free TailWind Bicycle Repair, Dixon YMCA, and KSB is sponsoring the first ever, Firecracker bicycle race for kids!Parking for the event is available at Washington School for the duration of the race. Race will take approximately 20 minutes from start to finish. Children with little to no biking experience are encouraged to participate! Helmets and signed parental consent are required to participate. Parents are encouraged to ride or run along with beginners. Streets are closed and controlled by event volunteers at corners. Farmer's Market -- The Dixon Park District hosts its Farmer's Market every Wednesday and Saturdays 7 a.m. -- Noon at Haymarket Square at the corner of  Highland Ave and Second Street.

Beer Fest, Dixon in Bloom and More!


Dixon Beer Festival sponsored by the Crystal Cork is this Saturday! Formerly the Dixon Wine Festival, now with a new flavor (don't worry, there will still be wine, too)! The festival will be under the tents on the Riverfront from 6-9 p.m. Tickets are $20 in advance and are available at Trein's Jewelry, Crystal Cork, and Dixon Main Street. Those purchasing a ticket in advance will receive a complimentary tasting glass and extra tasting tickets. Downtown restaurants will have tasting booths available throughout the night. Come sample the more than 100 varieties of beer and wine!

Mumford and Sons Vendors and Volunteers

Dixon In Bloom
A special thanks to the Dixon In Bloom committee for getting the hanging baskets up around the downtown this past weekend!
