Gentlemen of the Road Stopover headed to Dixon!

Mumford & Sons are pleased to announce Dixon, IL as a stop on  their series of Gentlemen of the Road Stopovers in the United States this August.

The Stopovers combine the intimacy of a community celebration with the excitement of a world-class music festival. Featuring local vendors and activities, each Stopover will begin with a concert at a unique site and end with a series of smaller events involving local businesses, venues, and, most importantly, local people. Mumford & Sons will headline the main event, alongside an eclectic and energetic roster of artists curated by the band themselves.

These one-day, outdoor events will take place in four carefully-selected and unique locations across America, including the Eastern Promenade in Portland, ME; downtown Bristol, VA/TN; Page Park in Dixon, IL; and the legendary Fairgrounds in Monterey, CA.

Dixon Main Street Executive Director Josh Albrecht said that he has spent the last five months working with Jam Productions from Chicago to plan the event.

“Part of the reason why they loved our downtown is because of the architecture and the way we are nestled on the river. We just got on the National Register for Historic Places in March, and now this is happening, so it has been an amazing year for us,” said Albrecht. “The word ‘epic’ has been thrown around a lot, and that is no understatement.”

Tickets to the Stopovers will be $69, with no additional service fees or hidden charges. Each ticket will include a beautifully designed commemorative Gentlemen of the Road Stopover Passport, and an exclusive digital download compilation album featuring performances taken from various acts across the four shows.

The Dixon Stopover will go on sale Saturday, June 9th at 10am CT. Tickets for all Stopovers will be available exclusively at gentlemenoftheroad.com. A very limited quantity of $59 early-bird tickets will be available for each site on a first-come, first-served basis.

Mumford & Sons said: “The Gentlemen of the Road Stopover is based loosely upon our favorite festivals like Colorado’s Telluride Bluegrass and Scotland's Loopallu Festivals. We want to stop off in towns where bands don’t usually tour, and celebrate the local people, food and music.

We’re keen to promote the town’s local businesses, and we’ll be using the local bars and venues for after-show parties, whilst working closely with the local people to get everyone involved in making these shows spectacular. There will be a host of our friends playing too, and the vibe falls somewhere between ‘travelling Victorian circus’ and ‘Victorian traveling circus’. It should be a whole lot of fun.”

Art-Cycle highlights this week's updates!

Greetings from Main Street ...
So you think art can only be a pretty picture of a barn or flower?  Guess again!  Second Saturdays Art Happenings and Dixon Main Street team up to bring you, “Art-Cycles’’ a downtown Dixon public art happening featuring artists and area groups that combine creative talents to transform old bicycles into works of art. Bernard Fenwick of the former Green River Adventure Sports worked with Joshua Albrecht of Dixon Main Street to come up with the idea to celebrate Bike Month in a creative way. Bernard donated bicycles from his former shop and both he and Josh coordinated the happening.
Artists and groups who created ‘’Art-Cycles’’ include:  Kimberly Clark of Byron, Janna Groharing of Sterling, Heather Houzenga of Savannah, Barb Lundeen of Oregon, Vicky Turner of Dixon, Bud LeFevre of Distinctive Gardens, Immanuel Lutheran Youth Group, Dixon Main Street, The Next Picture Show, Books on First, and The Dixon Telegraph.

“Art-Cycles’’ opens on this Second Saturdays and will be on display throughout the month of May.  The works of art will be auctioned off during the June Second Saturdays Street Fair proceeds benefiting Second Saturdays. June Second Saturdays Street Fair will feature regional artists, demonstrations, music, food, and live happenings on June 9, from 3-8 p.m.  There are still booths available and artists interested in showing should contact Courtnie Anderson at 815-288-0990 or email at SecondSaturdaysDixon@gmail.com or find information on the Second Saturdays Facebook page (www.facebook.com/Second.Saturdays.Art.Happenings).
