Petunia Festival 2014 FULL SCHEDULE OF EVENTS!



2014 Petunia Festival Ticket
Great deals for 5 days of entertainment!
This year purchase your ticket to the Festival in 2 ways. 
1.      Purchase a multiple day ticket for our Festival grounds music and entertainment area for $15.00 and the ticket will get you into the area for Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Sunday is a family free day, no admission is needed.
2.      OR pay an entry fee for only the days you will be at the Festival grounds music and entertainment area.  The daily admission fee is $5.00 for Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Sunday is a family free day, no admission is needed.  Children 12 and under are free every day at the Festival grounds and music area.
3.       
Free admission to the carnival grounds every day for everyone!
Multiple day tickets are good for use on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Your ticket will be punched or marked each day upon admission.    You will need to keep your one ticket for the entire Petunia Festival. Please note that Sunday is a free admission day.  The Board of Directors welcomes you to the 50th Annual Dixon Petunia Festival. To ensure all guests enjoy their festival experience, please remember no pets will be allowed in festival area (service animals only), no coolers or outside food will be allowed onto Petunia Festival grounds. Proper clothing, including shirts and shoes, are required at all times at the Petunia Festival. 

Carnival Tickets - purchase early and save.
We are proud to welcome back the North American Midway Entertainment Carnival.  Tickets will be available at a discount prior to the festival. You can save $2.00 to $5.00 per ticket.  Please purchase early for a discount.  Contact the Dixon Main Street or check our website at www.petuniafestival.org

One lucky winner will choose a 2014 Harley Davidson Street Glide Special or $10,000 in cash! Only 3500 tickets will be sold. Get your tickets by stopping by the Dixon Main Street office or visit us on the web at www.petuniafestival.org.
Ticket prices for this fundraiser are as follows: 1 for $20, 3 for $50, and 7 for $100. The drawing will be held Sunday evening, July 6, 2014 at the music stage prior to the fireworks. See the Harley on display before the festival at Ace Hardware in Dixon on the weekends and during the festival at numerous events and the Riverfront Taste Trail.  You can also visit the website for more pictures and complete details on the fundraiser. All the proceeds benefit the Dixon Petunia Festival, a non profit organization. The winner is responsible for all taxes and fees.

“Green Friendly”
Also this year the Dixon Petunia Festival is “Going Green.” We are combing efforts with Secure Recycling to become more ecologically friendly. Throughout the festival grounds you will be able to throw items away in specially marked containers for recycling.

Jimmy Buffett Simulcast Concert - Midway Drive-In
Tickets are sold on-line and will be at the Midway the evening of the event. The website to purchase tickets at is margaritaville.com/liveatthedrive-in. Tickets are $18 per person and it is a 2 person per minimum per vehicle. The gates open at 6pm and the concert is scheduled to begin around 8:45 and last for 2 hours.

Monday, June 30                           
                                    Midway Drive-In
Join us for 50’s night at the Midway Drive-In.  The classic “American Graffiti” (1973) on the big screen in digital projection and sound. Dress in your favorite 50’s style and drive your classic car. The Petunia Festival turns 50 and we want to celebrate! Join us as we salute “50 years of Petunia Magic”, Tuesday night, July 1, from 5-7 PM with an Open House at the Loveland Community Building, 513 W. Second St. in Dixon. There will be special historical exhibits of Petunia Festival history, Flying Fish will provide entertainment, and light refreshments will be served. Guests of honor will be past Festival Presidents, Royalty and Board members. The community is welcome to this event to help us celebrate our 50th year. ADMISSION FREE

To kick off the 2014, 50th Annual Petunia Festival, we open                                                 with a             new event surely to put you in the summer mood.  The first                                       ever Petunia             Luau will bring cold drinks and warm vibes, and you                                       can fill your belly with either succulent roast pork sandwiches, or                                                Hawaiian Smoked Chicken tamales prepared by one of the area’s                                             finest chefs, Chef John Zellar.  So, break out your grass skirts or                                                 Hawaiian shirts and join us.  Aloha!

6pm                            Charity No Limit Hold ’Em Tournament - Dixon Elks Lodge                                              #779 - 1279 Franklin Grove Road, Dixon
                                    All players must be at least 21 years of age to participate in the
tournament. The entry fee will be $60 for the first 10,000 chips. There will be a $30 optional add-on for an additional 5,000 chips. Prepayment of registration fee will gain a player an additional 2,000 chips. Only cash will be accepted on the day of the tournament for entry fee or add-on. Play will begin at 6:00 p.m. sharp. Registration forms are available at the Dixon Elks Lodge or the Dixon Main Street. Completion of the registration form and    prepayment must be submitted to the Dixon Elks Lodge. The deadline for early registration with prepayment will be Friday, June 27, 2014. Registration on the day of the tournament will begin at 4:30 p.m. at the Dixon Elks Lodge.

Into jam bands? Come check the authentic style and rootsy sound of Chicago's own Old Shoe. Made up of talented songwriters from across the country, hailing from as far away as Alaska, the band's compositions paint a diverse landscape of American life.

We are kicking off the 50th in style with Rusted Root! Famous for their unique fusion of acoustic, rock and world music. They formed over twenty years ago, and have recorded eight albums and sold over three million records worldwide. Rusted Root has played countless nights on the road supporting bands such as, The Grateful Dead, Dave Matthews Band, The Allman Brothers Band, and the HORDE Festival. A singer/songwriter who blends a unique variety of styles from country, pop and folk into her own style of music and writing. She recorded seven of her original songs at Treasure Isle Recorders in Nashville, and is proud to release her first CD, "Don't Come Knockin.”

7pm                            Brushville - Riverfront Main Stage
Back for the second year in a row at Petunia Festival. Brushville blends five extremely talented musicians, with incredible harmonies, an explosive stage show and a fresh, dynamic sound produced by an array of instruments to create an unforgettable experience for the audience.

Parmalee has its roots in bluegrass, traditional country, southern rock and blues covers the guys grew up hearing their families play. Parmalee recently made history when its multi-week #1 smash “Carolina” became the longest climbing single by a duo or group in the 24-year history of the Billboard Country Airplay Chart. They were a 2014 semi-finalist for the Academy of Country Music’s coveted New Artist of the Year award.

10am                         8th Annual Bean Bags Tournament River Street & Hennepin
This event, also known as "Corn Hole", has been a very popular event year after year for both players and viewers. This is a best 3 of 5 games, single eliminations tournament.  Registration begins at Noon with play starting at 1pm in front of the main stage along River Street between the bridges. $20/ team. Two players per team. Bring friends and family along to enjoy the music, food, beverages and a nice cold "adult" beverage.

12pm                          Brush, Bloom and Boom - First Street Downtown Dixon
Brush, Bloom, and Boom will take place in downtown Dixon on Friday, July 4th. This all-ages event has downtown streets as the canvas as artists will help us decorate the downtown for the Petunia Festival. Starting at Noon, artists will paint 4 foot by 4 foot squares. Pre-registration is just $10 per square. Participants can pre-register by downloading a form at www.petuniafestival.org/brushbloomboom or getting a form at Dixon Main Street. Day of registration is $15 and will begin at 11 a.m. at the corner of Peoria and River Street with judging taking place at 5 p.m. Paint and brushes will be supplied for the participants.

The Dixon Petunia Festival has once again partnered with the Dixon Family YMCA and Kohl’s to bring this family fun event. Kids’ activities and face painting guarantee fun for all! Bring the entire family as we will be on the Courthouse lawn next to the Ice Cream Social, where there will be tasty treats for purchase. ADMISSION FREE.

Join us for this annual tradition on the lawn of the Old Lee County Courthouse.  The Dixon Municipal Band is celebrating its 82nd year and will feature a great selection of patriotic and American favorites.

From nearby Rockford, IL, Miles brings his rock n' roll to the Dixon stage. Miles, the son of Cheap Trick guitarist Rick Nielsen, has opened for numerous national headlining acts, has his own unique blend of music and is making a name for himself with dynamic performances throughout the Midwest.

Registration is from 7am-8am, our annual event is open to age groups 5 and under (may have help from an adult), 6-8, 9-12, 13-15, and 16 and older. Groups fishing times are 8am – 10am. Trophies will be awarded for each age group as well as largest catch overall. Permission forms can be picked up at the Dixon Elk’s Lodge, Dixon Main Street, or online at www.petuniafestival.org.                                     Race start @ Ronald Reagan Home
It is the 15th Annual Reagan 5K Run/Walk. Race day registration from 6:00 – 7:30 a.m. Haymarket Square, 255 Highland Avenue.  Event start time is 8 a.m. at Ronald Reagan Boyhood Home (8th & Hennepin).  Free Kid’s Fun Run at 7:30 a.m. The KSB Corporate Challenge is a part of the 5K and registration forms are available online at www.getmeregistered.com, Dixon YMCA and Park District.  Call 815-288-2655 with questions or go to www.reaganrun.com.

Midland States Bank is proud to present its annual Kid’s Day. This is a family friendly event that includes, big-wheel races, arts & crafts, sack races, a basketball shoot-out and water fights with the help of the Dixon Fire Department. 10am - 12pm            Old Settlers Log Cabin - Lincoln Statue Drive
Built in 1894, as a lasting tribute to the areas earliest settlers, the cabin will be open for viewing for the first time in many years. An old fashioned blue grass picnic is presented by the Lee County Historical Society.  Bring a blanket, picnic basket, and the entire family to this historic setting for some old fashioned music and enjoyment. The cabin is located between the bridges on the north side of the river near the site of the original Fort Dixon.

Playing all the blues and soul and R&B to satisfy music fans.

Apache Relay is coming back to Dixon after their first stop was part of the Mumford & Sons Gentlemen of the Road Festival in August 2012. They are known for their "very Americana, very rootsy" sound.

Playing all the blues and soul and R&B to satisfy music fans.

The Americana and Blues band blends in a bit of folk and R&B to create a unique sound that has set them up for their latest album The Muse. Other festival stops this year include SXSW, Bonaroo, and Summer Camp.

1pm                            Parade: 50 Years of Petunia Magic!                 
            Please join us this year for a slightly changed route for the parade as we celebrate “50 Years of Petunia Magic.”  We have a fantastic        parade line-up featuring our local community members, the Jesse    White Tumblers, and the South Shore Drill Team.  We will also          feature a jam packed parade with entertainment from four marching             bands; Wendell Phillips Academy, Colt Cadets, Genesis, and           Legends! The Rosbrook Studio group will bring together a host of local musicians for an open mic style performance to help close the festival this year. Known for their monthly jams in downtown Dixon, the Rosbrook group will bring a great mix of music to the stage!

6pm                            50th Anniversary Drum and Bugle Corps Show
                                    A.C. Bowers Field, Dixon High School
Drum and Bugle Corps returns to the Petunia Festival! The 50th Festival welcomes Drum Corps International World Class Corps Jersey Surf, the Colts and Pioneer, along with DCI Open Class Corps Genesis, Colt Cadets and Legends! Tickets are only $12, General Admission, $20 for Reserved Seats (lower 6 rows) and $25 for Premium Seats (upper 5 rows) in sections C, D and E between the 35 yard lines and are available at the Dixon Main Street office or online at http://www.dci.org. Don’t miss the return of the Corps to Dixon!

A great way to end the first 50 years of the Petunia Festival!   Fireworks will be launched from the south side of the Rock River near the 900 block of West First Street.
