Community Expo -- April 2 from 9-2 p.m. -- The annual Community Expo at Kitzmans Lumber continues to add new booth vendors everyday. We have nearly 30 vendors already signed up to take part, and there is still time to reserve a booth. Kitzmans Lumber and Century Link are sponsoring this great event. Spurgeon's Bay will host a cookout for us during the event. Stop down to check out all the great booths and give-aways!
Founders Day -- April 11 -- On Monday, April 11 we will host the annual Founders Day celebration with special event at the Dixon Historic Center. This year, the event will feature a local history presentation, as well as the presentation of our PRIDE Award for Private Reinvestment in Downtown Excellence, and the first-ever Lifetime Achievement in Local History Award. The event will begin at 5p.m. with a soup and sandwich dinner offered for $10. Proceeds from the dinner will go towards the John Dixon Statue Project. The program will begin at 6:30 p.m. featuring a panel of local historians Greg Langan, Jeff Lovett and James Dixon discussion Dixon and the Civil War. Dixon City-Wide Garage Sales -- April 16 -- Dixon Main Street is holding a city-wide garage sale event on Saturday, April 16. Residents and businesses will be able to take part for the low cost of $15, which gets them a marker on the map, listing and more. The event is sponsored by Fifth Third Bank, Quality Resale, Snyders, Mama Cimino's, Blackhawk Insurance and Butcher Block Antiques.
Fitness Fest and Reagan Criterium Bike Races presented by Green River Adventure Sports -- May 7 -- This is the 3rd Annual Bike Races through downtown Dixon. This year, a 3k Run will be added to the day. Register for the run at www.runreg.com or the bike races at www.bikereg.com. Sponsored by KSB Hospital, Ken Nelson Auto, Anytime Fitness and Mead's Bike Shop.
Dixon Main Street Golf Outing presented by Sauk Valley Bank -- Save the date for Thursday, May 26 at Timber Creek Golf Club. This year's honorary chairman of the event is Jesse Partington. Foursome price stays the same as last year at $280. Already 10 foursomes have reserved their spot!
A few quick notes . . .
- Blumen Stuff is hosting a show called "Welcome Wonderful Spring" on Thursday, March 24 at 7 p.m. at Timber Creek. It is a design show to showcase lots of new and fun stuff for Spring and Easter. Tickets are $12 in advance, $15 at the door.
- A Meet the Candidates Night will be held at 7 p.m. on March 28 at the high school cafeteria. The event is hosted by the Dixon Chamber of Commerce.
-Dixon Sister Cities will have a concert by the NIU Steel Drum Band on March 29 at 7 p.m. at the Historic Dixon Theatre. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for 12 and under. Check www.dixontheatre.com for details.
- The Dixon Rotary Club is planning their annual Community Shrimp Boil and Chili Bowl Fundraiser for Saturday, April 9 from 5 – 8:30 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 506 W Third Street, Dixon. The fundraiser is used to support Rotary Club events and projects, including college scholarships. Carry-out orders are available from 5 p.m. – 6 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults, $5 for ages 6-12 and children 5 and under eat free. For more information or to order tickets, call Melissa Glessner at 815-288-3310. The Dixon Rotary Club meets every Monday at noon at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in downtown Dixon.
- The Regional Survey of Art 7 Show is on view at The Next Picture Show until April 9. And, the next opening event at TNPS will be Friday, April 22 when the Sinissippi Foundation Expressions Show will be held.
