Riverfront, Library to be featured at Lunch and Learn

The Dixon Main Street Lunch and Learn program at the Post House Ballroom on Wednesday, January 20 will feature a presentations by the Dixon Riverfront Commission and the Dixon Public Library.

“We really wanted to kick off our 2010 Lunch and Learn series with a bang, so we have asked two community organizations to give us updates on their current projects," Josh Albrecht, Dixon Main Street Executive Director said.

The program on Dixon's Heritage Crossing Riverfront will be conducted by Michael Svach, Executive Manager of the Riverfront. Svach will give information on public use of the riverfront, upcoming events and future development.

"This year will be the first full year for the riverfront and it is important to inform the community about how they can best utilize this new treasure in the city," Albrecht said.

Also on the agenda will be Lynn Roe, Dixon Public Library Director, who will give information on the library's Big Read program.

The January Lunch and Learn is sponsored by First National Bank in Amboy and is catered by Alley Loop. Admission cost is $3 and includes lunch. The Lunch and Learn program is open to the public and reservations are not required. The program begins at 12 p.m. and normally finishes by 1 p.m.

UPCOMING EVENTS
Jan. 20 -- Lunch and Learn at the Post House Ballroom. Open to all and admission is $3 with lunch included. This month, come and learn about the next step at Heritage Crossing, downtown Dixon's Riverfront, from executive manager Michael Svach and learn about Dixon Public Library's Big Read program.

Feb. 20 -- Annual Dixon Main Street Martini Night Volunteer Recognition Celebration. The evening includes the naming of the Volunteer of the Year and the Cornerstone Award. The entertainment this year will be Comedy Hypnosis and a live auction will feature dessert and drink trays, an over-night stay at the Irish Cottage in Galena and the presenting sponsorship for the Main Street Golf Outing. Tickets are just $35 or $250 for a corporate table of 8. Reservations can be made by calling 815-288-2308.

Feb. 27 -- The Next Picture Show is hosting its annual Art for Art's Sake Fundraiser at Ken Nelson Auto Plaza in Dixon from 6-10:30 p.m. Artists will be creating art that night for a live auction at the end of the evening. Appetizers and drinks are included. Cost is $35 per person. For details call NPS at 285-4924.

The Lee County Health Department has announced the following clinics for the general public.
Date: Tuesday, January 12, from 9:00am – 12:00 noon
Thursday, January 14, from 9:00am – 12:00noon
Location: LCHD Office at 309 S. Galena Ave, Dixon
Vaccine quantities are limited and we will provide shots as long as the vaccine supply allows. There will be no charge for receiving the H1N1 vaccination from the LCHD.

WORD ON THE STREET
- Basil Tree has finished the remodeling of their downstairs dining room. The room is available for special occasion rentals and also will be used for extra space during peak business hours.
- Spurgeon's Bay now features crab legs on their menu. Check out their ever evolving lunch and dinner specials and bring the entire family.
- The One and Only Nikos' helped brighten the spirits of the Litts family whose house caught fire in early December. Nikos' donated $500 after a fundraiser was held for the family at the store.
- Cash 4 Gold is now open at the old Harney TV location on Peoria Avenue.
- Unfortunately, Purse Addiction closed its doors as of Jan. 1. We will miss this great specialty store.

2010 Martini Night

The Black and White Martini Night is back! Dixon Main Street is again hosting a very special evening to recognize the hard working volunteers that make Main Street what it is today!
On Saturday, February 20th, 2010 the Black and White Martini Night Volunteer Recognition Evening will be held at the Post House, and will again embrace the signature cocktail for the evening The Cosmopolitan! Along with evening cocktails, heavy hors d’ oeuvres will be served and items from our local Main Street and Dixon businesses will be auctioned off. As part of the evening festivities, we wholeheartedly cheer for those attending to wear black and white.
The Black and White Martini Night will be taking a different direction this year for entertainment. Instead of the usual humdrum, we have invited a hypnotist. Any partaking with the hypnotist is voluntary, but volunteers are always welcome!
Our classy event will begin at 6pm with warm hors d’ oeuvres and chilled cocktails, then onto the Main Street Volunteer Recognition Awards at 7pm. After the awards, the entertainment and auction will ensue to complete the evening.
Dixon Main Street’s auction will include the Headline Sponsorship Spot for the Annual Dixon Main Street Golf Outing which will happen this coming June. Nevertheless, please do not be discourage if golf is not your cup of tea, for we also will be auctioning off desserts, donated items from Dixon business, and drink trays. For one table of lucky winners, a donated tray of some infamous Bloody Marys are to be auctioned off and can be yours if the price is right!
Ticket prices have been set at $35 per person or $250 per corporate table of 8. Space is limited to 160 people / 20 tables. Pre-selling of tickets has already begun.
