Greetings from Main Street ...
Just a friendly reminder that postage stamps went up by a penny yesterday to the tune of 45 cents per stamp. So, before you mail that next letter, make sure you have updated your stamps, including postcards stamps!

The Dixon Main Street Board set its officers for the 2012 year at our board meeting last week. President: Kevin Marx (KSB Hospital), VP: Brittany Herwig (Dixon Health Care), Secretary: Donna Louise Jasper (Blackhawk Insurance), and Treasurer: Laura Bock (Sauk Valley Properties). Our other Board Members for 2012 include: Scott Brown (Wendler Engineering), John Jones (Kitzmans Lumber), Becky Reilly (Sauk Valley Media), BJ Fenwick (Green River Adventure Sports), and Ryan Marshall (The Stables).

Now on to the DMS Events and Updates ...
Feb. 4 -- Coming up on Saturday, Feb. 4 at the Post House Ballroom will be Dixon Main Street's annual Gala Celebration this year themed Classic Hollywood. Come walk the red carpet, enjoy music by Cirque du Swing with vocals by Kathy Cecchetti, take your chances at our live and silent auction and enjoy a great evening in a beautiful and historic setting. We will announce our Volunteer of the Year winner, along with the naming of our latest Cornerstone Award winners, which is like DMS's Hall of Fame. Tickets are just $25 per person or $200 for a sponsored table of 8. Dinner is included. Space is limited so make your reservation by Friday, Jan. 27. https://www.facebook.com/events/301936573181379/

Feb. 7 -- Shop Talk at Books on First from 5- 6 p.m. Join area merchants in this informal get-together to talk about issues effecting local businesses. A great networking opportunity to learn from your peers. Last month we had a great discussion on New Year's Business Resolutions and how it is important to step back from our business and view them from the customer's perspective. For the February, the Topic Du Jour will be Perspectives: How Businesses are perceived by Owners, Employees and the Public. Free refreshments thanks to Books on First and C&N Supply!

March 10 -- An Irish Fleadh presented by Lee County Irish Heritage Society and Dixon Main Street featuring the music of The Matt Stedman Band. Save the Date! Details to come soon.

March 18 -- The American Roots/Celtic Soul duo, Switchback, will be returning to Dixon for their 7th annual Irish Music concert at the Dixon High School Auditorium on March 18 at 4pm. Tickets are $10 for anyone 13 and over. The Kosier Studio of Dance Irish Dancers will be performing.
March 20 -- Art for Art's Sake Fundraiser for the Next Picture Show

FYI -- The Dixon Flash Soccer Club and the Dixon YMCA Soccer Program are looking for nicely used/worn soccer shoes, shin guards, balls, and other equipment to share with the kids during the spring soccer season. Lunch and Learn highlights this week's updates

Greetings from Main Street ...
The January Lunch and Learn is this week on Wednesday, January 18 at Noon at the Post House Ballroom. The program will be by John Thompson, who will give us an update on LCIDA and the Chamber of Commerce. Lunch will be by Baker Street and it is sponsored by Kitzmans. Cost is just $3 per person.

We are also continuing the Reagan Oral History Project that began last year. Rev. Scott Porter is conducting interviews at the Dixon Historic Center on Thursday mornings. If you would like to share a story of Ronald Reagan, please contact the DMS office at 288-2308.

DMS and the Historic Dixon Theatre are teaming up again for their annual comedy show! This year, we are working the the iO Theatre out of Chicago to bring their famous and heralded musical comedy "Cupid Has A Heart On: A Musical Guide to Relationships" to the Dixon Theatre on Friday, Nov. 4 at 8 p.m.

The Chicago Tribune says, "'Cupid' is full of wit and zest!" and it has been playing to sold out shows on the weekends at the iO Theatre in Chicago for 3 years! Dec. 5 -- "A Family Christmas" is a special Christmas concert for the whole family on Monday, Dec. 5 at 6:30 p.m. at the Historic Dixon Theatre. The concert features traditional and contemporary holiday songs and is a great all-ages show. Mark and Gretch Hladish are the resident musicians for Millie's Restaurant and Shopping Village in Lake Delavan, Wis. and along with Jo Hodges, are sure to create a wonderful evening of holiday songs to enjoy. Oct 15 -- 5th Annual Save the Boobies Pub Crawl by First Street Pub. The crawl runs from 3-7 p.m. in downtown Dixon with proceeds going to support cancer research and local non-profit organizations that help those affected by cancer. For details, contact First Street Pub.
Oct 16 -- "Tales from Beyond the Grave" 3rd Annual Cemetery Walk provides guided historical tours of Oakwood Cemetery. Characters dressed in period costume give a first person account of people who contributed to the early days of the City of Dixon. The Grand Army Court of the Civil War's fallen heroes will be honored. $5 donation per person for cemetery restoration. Children 12 and under free. Sponsored by Dixon Tourism & Lee Co. Genealogical Society.
Oct. 16 -- KSB Hospital is having its Emergency Department/Surgery Open House from 1-4 p.m. The public is invited for tours and refreshments beginning with the opening ceremony at 1 p.m.
Oct. 20 -- Please welcome WildflowerPicks Photography to downtown Dixon as they will host an open house on Thursday, Oct. 20 from 5-7 p.m. Their studio is at 109 S. Hennepin Ave.
Oct. 22 -- The Dixon Lioness Fall Auction will be held at 6 p.m. at the VFW in Dixon. Proceeds will go to support the Lioness Club's efforts in the community.
Closed for Renovations: Touch of Thai will be closed for about 17 days for renovations to the dinning room.

Tuesday, August 9 –
Come enjoy an evening in the park at Reagan’s Boyhood Home. An Evening in the President’s Shadow Wine Tasting will be from 7 to 9 p.m. in Reagan Memorial Park. Some of last year’s favorite vendors will return and some interesting new ones will make their debut, including Galena Brewing Company and Wide River Winery. Advance sale tickets go on sale on July 1 in the gift shop for $20 and include a commemorative wine glass and 8 tasting tickets. Tickets purchased at the event will include the same glass and tasting tickets but will be $25 each. You must be 21 years old to attend. Wine, beer and non-alcoholic punches will be available for sampling during the event filled with music and fellowship. For more information, call 288-5176.

Community Picnic at Lowell Park, 5 p.m. - 8 p.m.. A perfect setting for an old-fashioned community picnic at Lowell Park, where Reagan once saved 77 lives as a lifeguard. Friday, August 12 – The traditional and annual Ronald Reagan Gala. The wonderful evening, celebrates Ronald Reagan and Dixon High School alumni that have gone on to do great things just as Ronald Reagan did. The evening will feature an elegant dinner, awards presentation, music and dancing. A can’t-miss event! This year we will honor Mary Dixon, who is a radio host in Chicago, and Frank Masterman, who is the founder of the Rock River Sweep. Tickets are $35 per person or $300 for a sponsored table of 8. Friday, August 12 -- The Taste of Dixon on the Riverfront from 5 p.m. - 11 p.m. featuring food vendors and much more. Shake Your Booty DJ will be playing music through the night. Tipsy's beer garden open.

Riverfront and Downtown Dixon Activities Include:
7:30 - 10:30 a.m. -- First Christian Church Pancake Breakfast. Come have breakfast at Ronald Reagan's boyhood church, in the lower-level fellowship hall. Adults are $5 and Children 12 and under are $3.

10 a.m. -- The Alzheimer's Association annual Duck Races on the Rock River. Come down to the Riverfront and watch hundreds of rubber duckies race along the rock river. Join the fundraising effort by sponsoring a duck for just $5. Tickets are available at the Alzheimer's Association office at 93 S. Hennepin Ave. or call 285-1100.

10 a.m. - 4 p.m. -- FREE Air Conditioned Shuttle Bus -- Take the bus and explore what each historic site has to offer. Tours of the Reagan Boyhood Home, Loveland Community House Museum, Dixon Historic Center, Dixon Public Library, and Riverfront. Shuttle Bus departs from the Reagan statue on the Riverfront every 30 minutes, hop on and hop off at each site, and is sponsored by the Lee County Council on Aging.

10 a.m. - 4 p.m. -- Downtown Sidewalk Sales -- Come shop downtown Dixon and explore our quaint retail shops or enjoy some refreshments at our great restaurants and bars.

11 a.m. -- Dixon Rural Fire Department Presents the 2nd Annual Reagan Water Fights. Come watch area fire departments compete in firefighting skills events. Located on Lincoln Statue Drive near the Lincoln statue.

11 a.m. - 5 p.m. -- Historic Dixon Tours -- Join us for a FREE bus tour of many of the local Reagan and Dixon historic sites. A local historian will tell stories as you ride the streets of Dixon in an air conditioned/handicapped accessible bus. The bus departs every 30 minutes from the Reagan statue on the Riverfront. and is sponsored by the Lee County Council on Aging.

11 a.m. -- 11 p.m. -- Taste of Dixon food vendors and Tipy's beer garden open on the Riverfront.

6-8 p.m. -- Second Saturdays Art Happenings at various locations throughout the downtown. Maps will be available at the event or online at www.secondsaturdays.com

10 a.m. - 2 p.m. -- A new activity for children is scheduled for Saturday, August 13 from 10 to 2 in front of the Boyhood Home. Sidewalk Chalk Art should bring out some creative images as children from 5 to 18 years old create colorful responses s to the theme “What is HOME?”. The fun will be part of the annual Reagan Trail Days celebrations and stems from the line by Ronald Reagan in the movie The Hasty Heart, “Everyone has a place to come home to. For me that’s Dixon, Illinois along the Rock River.” Participants can register the morning of the event in Reagan Memorial Park for $2.00 and will be given colorful sidewalk chalk and assigned a space for their creation. Recognitions will be awarded at 2:30.

9 a.m. - 1 p.m. -- The second Bake Sale for the Ronald Reagan Boyhood Home Volunteer Scholarship will be held on Saturday, August 13 from 9:00 until 1:00 in Reagan Memorial Park. This sale is to add funds to the scholarship formed this Spring in honor of Volunteer Doris Jordan who passed away last November.Donations of baked goods or money can be dropped off at the Gift Shop anytime after noon on Friday, August 12 or anytime during the sale.

Mud Volleyball Tournament Presented by Dixon Health Care
The 3rd Annual Dixon Main Street Mud Volleyball Tournament will take place from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. at the Meadows Park off of Brinton Avenue. Team registration ends Thursday, August 11. Ronald Reagan Heritage Bicycle Ride, The Rock River Valley Bicycle Club’s 18th annual invitational bicycle ride, has scenery to delight you, hills to challenge you, well-stocked rest stops to refresh you, friendly staff to assist you and a delicious meal awaiting you at ride’s end. You can choose to bicycle 25, 50, 75 or 100 miles on low-traffic roads through the lovely countryside and quaint towns of northern Illinois. Reagan Centennial Reprise Concert -- 4 p.m. Dixon Theatre. Tickets are $5 each and are available online at www.dixontheatre.com, Trein's Jewelry and Dixon Main Street. This concert will be sponsored by Sauk Valley Newspapers as part of the Reagan Trail Days Celebration. The concert repertoire will include “His Honor March” by Henry Fillmore, “Incantation and Dance” by John Barnes Chance, “The Student Prince Overture” by Sigmund Romberg, Selections from the Broadway Show “Wicked”, and as the grand finale “Reagan of Illinois” by David Holsinger. Paul Katner will reprise his role as narrator, while a small group of vocalists from Clinton Riverchoir will provide the lyrics for the concluding anthem. Community Expo -- April 2 from 9-2 p.m. -- The annual Community Expo at Kitzmans Lumber continues to add new booth vendors everyday. We have nearly 30 vendors already signed up to take part, and there is still time to reserve a booth. Kitzmans Lumber and Century Link are sponsoring this great event. Spurgeon's Bay will host a cookout for us during the event. Stop down to check out all the great booths and give-aways!

Founders Day -- April 11 -- On Monday, April 11 we will host the annual Founders Day celebration with special event at the Dixon Historic Center. This year, the event will feature a local history presentation, as well as the presentation of our PRIDE Award for Private Reinvestment in Downtown Excellence, and the first-ever Lifetime Achievement in Local History Award. The event will begin at 5p.m. with a soup and sandwich dinner offered for $10. Proceeds from the dinner will go towards the John Dixon Statue Project. The program will begin at 6:30 p.m. featuring a panel of local historians Greg Langan, Jeff Lovett and James Dixon discussion Dixon and the Civil War. Dixon City-Wide Garage Sales -- April 16 -- Dixon Main Street is holding a city-wide garage sale event on Saturday, April 16. Residents and businesses will be able to take part for the low cost of $15, which gets them a marker on the map, listing and more. The event is sponsored by Fifth Third Bank, Quality Resale, Snyders, Mama Cimino's, Blackhawk Insurance and Butcher Block Antiques.

Fitness Fest and Reagan Criterium Bike Races presented by Green River Adventure Sports -- May 7 -- This is the 3rd Annual Bike Races through downtown Dixon. This year, a 3k Run will be added to the day. Register for the run at www.runreg.com or the bike races at www.bikereg.com. Sponsored by KSB Hospital, Ken Nelson Auto, Anytime Fitness and Mead's Bike Shop.

Dixon Main Street Golf Outing presented by Sauk Valley Bank -- Save the date for Thursday, May 26 at Timber Creek Golf Club. This year's honorary chairman of the event is Jesse Partington. Foursome price stays the same as last year at $280. Already 10 foursomes have reserved their spot!

A few quick notes . . .
- Blumen Stuff is hosting a show called "Welcome Wonderful Spring" on Thursday, March 24 at 7 p.m. at Timber Creek. It is a design show to showcase lots of new and fun stuff for Spring and Easter. Tickets are $12 in advance, $15 at the door.
- A Meet the Candidates Night will be held at 7 p.m. on March 28 at the high school cafeteria. The event is hosted by the Dixon Chamber of Commerce.
-Dixon Sister Cities will have a concert by the NIU Steel Drum Band on March 29 at 7 p.m. at the Historic Dixon Theatre. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for 12 and under. Check www.dixontheatre.com for details.
- The Dixon Rotary Club is planning their annual Community Shrimp Boil and Chili Bowl Fundraiser for Saturday, April 9 from 5 – 8:30 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 506 W Third Street, Dixon. The fundraiser is used to support Rotary Club events and projects, including college scholarships. Carry-out orders are available from 5 p.m. – 6 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults, $5 for ages 6-12 and children 5 and under eat free. Water Rates and Improvemens focus of Lunch and Learn in March

The Dixon Main Street Lunch and Learn program at the Post House Ballroom on Wednesday, March 16 will feature a presentation on the City of Dixon Water Department and the recent rate changes and improvements.

“This is a very timely and important subject for everyone in the city of Dixon. We felt it would be appropriate to allow the public to come and learn more about this project and why it is happening," Josh Albrecht, Dixon Main Street Executive Director, said.

The program will highlight the city's efforts to comply with the EPA mandates for safe drinking water, including well enhancement projects and the water rate increase that came with the improvements.

"The best way to understand how your city works is to get the information straight from the source," Albrecht said.

The March Lunch and Learn is sponsored by Dixon Paint Company and US Bank and is catered by Mama Cimino's. Admission is $3 and includes lunch. The Lunch and Learn program is open to the public and reservations are not required. The program begins at 12 p.m. and normally finishes by 1 p.m.

Allied Waste helps beautify downtown Dixon

ALLIED WASTE DONATION HELPS TO BEAUTIFY DOWNTOWN DIXON

Dixon Main Street recently received a donation from Allied Waste to help with the continued streetscape improvements in downtown Dixon. The donation of $1,237 went to help purchase two additional trash cans for the downtown.

Dixon Main Street Executive Director Josh Albrecht said the donation is another step in the revitalization efforts in downtown Dixon.

"This is a great donation for the city," Albrecht said. "Many of the trash containers in downtown Dixon have gotten beat up over the years. The addition of two new containers will help to beautify the streetscape."

Allied Waste made the donation to Dixon Main Street last year after volunteer Mitch Tucker pitched the idea to Ralph Wolf of Allied Waste. Once the donation was in place, DMS worked with the City of Dixon to purchase the same trash containers used as part of the Hennepin Avenue project.

The City of Dixon will place the two new cans on First Street between Galena and Hennepin Avenue once the weather improves.

"We hope to continue replacing the trash cans as monies become available," Albrecht said. "It is a small step, but one that immediately shows improvement."

If you attended the Second City this past Saturday night, I would bet that you are still laughing about some of the skits. For the second year in a row, the Second City comedy group did a fantastic job of turning the Historic Dixon Theatre into a laugh riot! Thanks to the theatre, especially Tom Elmendorf, for a great collaboration with Dixon Main Street to bring this show to Dixon. And thanks to Trein's Jewelry, Venier's Jewelry and Crystal Cork for helping to sell pre-show tickets and to WIXN, WSDR and The Telegraph for all their advertising help!

1) Dixon Main Street's Lunch and Learn program for November will be a preview of the Regan Centennial Celebrations by Ann Lewis. The program is at the Post House Ballroom on Wednesday, Nov. 17 at Noon. Caterer will be Snow White Bakery and the Sponsor is Community State Bank. Admission is $3 and includes lunch.

Happy November to everyone!
We had a great Halloween weekend in downtown Dixon with the first-ever Monster Pancake Breakfast at the Post House Ballroom serving 225 people. Thanks to Lee County Council on Aging for co-hosting the event with DMS and to our sponsors Mama Cimino's, Fifth Third Bank, McDonald's and Astro-Ven. And thanks to all the volunteers that made it happen. After the breakfast, the Lions Club held their annual parade through the downtown streets. Later that night, I saw plenty of great costumes while I was downtown.

1) We are just a few short days away from the funniest night of the year when Second City comes to town for a the Dysfunctional Holiday Review. If you love Saturday Night Live, you won't want to miss the Second City at the Historic Dixon Theatre on Saturday, Nov. 6 at 7:30 p.m. Get your tickets now at Trein's, Venier's or Crysal Cork, or call the DMS office at 288-2308. 3) The fundraising reception for the John Dixon statue was a big success at the Crystal Cork last Thursday night. A nice crowd came out to see the unveiling of the table-top bronze sculpture.Thanks to Crystal Cork and to Basil Tree for their help that evening. Three of the table-top bronze statues are now accounted for and only 7 remain. Please consider a donation to this great public arts project!

MONSTER BREAKFAST set for Oct. 30

Dixon Main Street and the Lee County Council on Aging will host a Monster Breakfast fundraiser from 7 a.m. - 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 30 at the Post House Ballroom. Guests will be greeted by costumed characters and they will enjoy a breakfast buffet by Mama Cimino's. Cost is $4 for adults, $2 for children 12 and under and you get a $1 off when you come in costume.

Dixon Main Street executive director Josh Albrecht said he expects the event to be a fun way to enjoy Halloween in downtown Dixon as the annual Dixon Noon Lions annual Halloween Parade follows the breakfast at 10 a.m.

"With the Monster Breakfast and the annual Lions' Halloween Parade being held the same morning, this is a great opportunity for area families to celebrate Halloween in a safe and fun way," Albrecht said.

The Monster Breakfast is being served buffet-style by Mama Cimino's, which recently started serving Sunday brunch. The breakfast will feature several breakfast items including, eggs, sausage and pancakes. McDonald's will be providing orange drink for the kids. Fifth Third Bank and Astro-Ven Distributors are also sponsoring the event. Proceeds from the event will go to support activities and programs for Dixon Main Street and the LCCOA.

The annual Noon Lions Halloween Parade also includes a costume contest with judging starting at 9:30 a.m. at Haymarket Square. All participants in the parade receive a treat bag donated by local businesses, Dixon High School Leo Club and the Noon Lions.

Chili Cook-off and Bags Tournament

Last year, Bright Beginnings Daycare took home first-place at the Dixon Main Street Chili Cook-off. And the People’s Choice went to Alley Loop for the second year in a row. Chili cookers from throughout the Sauk Valley area have a chance to knock these two champions off their pedestal during the 3nd Annual Dixon Main Street Chili Cook-off on Sunday, Oct. 24.

The cook-off will be held in the Beanblossom parking lot from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. Registration ends Oct. 24 and cost to enter is $25. Forms can be found online at www.dixonil.com/mainstreet or at the Main Street office, 115 S. Hennepin Ave.

“We had a lot of great chili to eat last year,” Josh Albrecht, executive director of Dixon Main Street, said. “With more than 500 people tasting the chili, Alley Loop definitely earned their People’s Choice Award”

The contest will have cash prizes for First, Second and Third Place. There also will be awards for People’s Choice and Showmanship. There will be secret judges for the top prizes. Set-up for the event will begin at 8 a.m. as all cooks are required to prepare their entire chili at the event because of Health Department guidelines.

Not only will there be chili, but new this year will be the addition of a salsa contest. Cost to enter the salsa contest is $25. Judges will decide and award a Best in Show prize to the top salsa creator.

Bean Bag Toss stations will be set up for tournament play. Registration for the Bean Bag Tournament will begin at 11 a.m. with play beginning at 11:30 a.m. Cost is $20 per team and prizes will be awarded.

Admission to the Chili Cook-off is $3 per person and admission includes tasting tickets for the chili. The event is open to all ages. For more information on the Chili Cook-off, call Dixon Main Street at 815-288-2308.

Second City is coming back to Dixon!

John Dixon Statue Fundraiser

A fundraising reception will be held at the Crystal Cork on Thursday, Oct. 28 from 6-9 p.m. in support of the Dixon Main Street Public Arts Project. That evening, the public will be able to talk with the artist, view the table-top bronze statue of John Dixon, learn about the project and help support this great project to honor Dixon's founding father. Admission is free for the fundraising reception, but donations will be accepted.

Dixon Main Street executive director Josh Albrecht said he is excited to showcase the table top bronze version of the John Dixon statue that artist Michael McNammara of Grand Detour has been working on.

"With the table top bronze, we are one step closer to making this statue a reality in downtown Dixon," Albrecht said. "Now we need the community's support to take the next step and have the life-sized version completed."

In the spring of 2009, Dixon Main Street’s Design Committee launched a statue project that would focus on honoring and remembering the founders of Dixon. The project’s announcement coincided with the annual Founders’ Day celebration that pays tribute to the people that helped to lay the foundation of what Dixon is today.

In an effort to honor the first resident, the committee settled upon raising the money to honor Father John Dixon in a life-sized bronze statue that would be set in downtown Dixon. The plan was to honor the story of John Dixon coming to the downtown as an elderly man to sit and visit with the people of the community.

Now, a year and a half later, the committee is working on getting the funding secured for this great project. Many have donated their spare change and one donor has given a significant donation to get the ball rolling.

The table top version has been cast in bronze for a limited edition series of 10 pieces. As part of the fundraising effort, those 10 bronzes will be given to the first 10 donors giving $3,000 or more to the project. Only eight of the table top bronze statues are still available. Also, as part of the fundraising reception on Oct. 28, the Crystal Cork will donate 10 percent of their sales that evening to the statue project.

"The table top bronze is a magnificent piece. I can't wait to see the life-sized sculpture completed and in downtown Dixon," Albrecht said.

Class Act to Perform at Historic Dixon Theatre

Class Act Big Band is set to perform at the Historic Dixon Theatre on Saturday, April 10 at 7 p.m. as a fundraiser for the Historic Dixon Theatre and Dixon Main Street. As part of the show, 22 area musicians are set to perform, along with the Morrison-based group the Arkansas Connection.

Class Act will perform a "Coast to Coast Musical Journey Across America" featuring big band hits such as "New York, New York", "I Left My Heart in San Francisco," "My Kind of Town, Chicago" and "Kansas City." The band is lead by Ted Fredenhagen of Amboy. Featured singers will be Eileen Quest of Amboy, Angie Harrison of Dixon and Tom Slothower of Sterling.

"This is a great line-up of area musicians and we are delighted to have them together for a unique showcase at the Historic Dixon Theatre," Josh Albrecht, Dixon Main Street Executive Director said. "The best part is that this is an all-ages show that the whole family can enjoy."

DMS to host Community Expo April 10

Dixon Main Street is once again hosting its annual Community Expo and Home Show on Saturday, April 10. This year, the event will be held at Kitzman's Lumber, 411 W. First Street in downtown Dixon. The expo space will be in the indoor lumber yard allowing the event to be held rain or shine. The past two years more than 500 people walked through the expo to learn more about area businesses and organizations. This is a great way to showcase what area businesses or organizations are all about.

"The show is a great opportunity for area businesses and organizations to showcase what they do in the community," Josh Albrecht, executive director of Dixon Main Street, said. "We are excited to offer this great event in downtown Dixon."

The Black and White Martini Night is back! Dixon Main Street is again hosting a very special evening to recognize the hard working volunteers that make Main Street what it is today!
On Saturday, February 20th, 2010 the Black and White Martini Night Volunteer Recognition Evening will be held at the Post House, and will again embrace the signature cocktail for the evening The Cosmopolitan! Along with evening cocktails, heavy hors d’ oeuvres will be served and items from our local Main Street and Dixon businesses will be auctioned off. As part of the evening festivities, we wholeheartedly cheer for those attending to wear black and white.
The Black and White Martini Night will be taking a different direction this year for entertainment. Instead of the usual humdrum, we have invited a hypnotist. Any partaking with the hypnotist is voluntary, but volunteers are always welcome!
Our classy event will begin at 6pm with warm hors d’ oeuvres and chilled cocktails, then onto the Main Street Volunteer Recognition Awards at 7pm. After the awards, the entertainment and auction will ensue to complete the evening.
Dixon Main Street’s auction will include the Headline Sponsorship Spot for the Annual Dixon Main Street Golf Outing which will happen this coming June. Nevertheless, please do not be discourage if golf is not your cup of tea, for we also will be auctioning off desserts, donated items from Dixon business, and drink trays. Dixon Main Street is hoping to start a new Halloween tradition in Dixon by hosting its first HallowMainia Costume Ball at the Post House Ballroom on Saturday, Oct. 31 from 7 p.m. – 11 p.m. The evening will include dinner, dancing, commemorative photos by Grot, door prizes and a presentation of Dixon ghost stories. Tickets are just $20 per person, $35 per couple or a sponsor table of 8 for $150.

“We couldn’t pass up the opportunity to host a costume party at the Post House Ballroom on Halloween,” said Josh Albrecht, executive director of Dixon Main Street. “We thought it would be a great way for people to come to downtown Dixon for their Halloween fun.”

Individual and group costume contests will be held, with prizes awarded for the winners. And “after-hours” drink tickets will be giving to everyone to be used at the downtown Dixon bars after the HallowMainia event.

“Our committee thought it would be a great idea to encourage our guests to stay downtown for the many parties that will be happening. The drink tickets will encourage our guest to try one of our great establishments in downtown Dixon,” said Albrecht.

MUD VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT PLANNED FOR JUNE 20

Dixon Main Street is unveiling a new event for Dixon and the Sauk Valley area this summer. On June 20, Dixon will play host to an all-day Mud Volleyball Tournament. The action will take place at the Meadows field, at the horse trail parking lot off of Brinton Ave.

The event is a cooperative effort between Dixon Main Street and the Dixon Park District and will feature tournament play with each team being guaranteed at least two matches. Cost to have a co-ed team of six players is $120, with day of registration $150. Forms can be downloaded at www.dixonil.com/mainstreet.

“Dixon Main Street is always looking for fun and exciting ways to bring people to our community,” Executive Director Josh Albrecht said. “Our Promotions Committee thought that a mud volleyball tournament was a great way to spend a summer day and to raise some money to support Main Street events like the Scarecrow Festival and Christmas Walk.”

This year’s event features music by 3D Sound, a pork chop cook out by the Dixon Park District and a beer garden. An age limit of 21 years-old will be enforced for play in the tournament, although those younger can come and watch the event. The tournament will begin at 10 a.m. and conclude when a champion is crowned.

The 62nd Phidian Art Show will be held from April 7 through April 22, 2009 at the Loveland Community House. Entry registration will be Thursday April 2, 2009 from 2 - 7 pm and Friday April 3, 2009 from 3 -6 pm on the lower level of the Loveland Building. Entry Fee is $10 per picture (limit2) size no larger than 48: wide, max 25 lbs. Entrants must be 17 years and older and live within 35 driving miles of Dixon, IL.
April 11 – Second Annual Founders’ Day celebration at the Loveland Community House. This year’s program is titled “Dixon, Lincoln and the Blackhawk War.” The evening will also feature the unveiling of the restored Father John Dixon portrait and a special announcement. The Black and White Martini Night is back! Dixon Main Street will be hosting their annual volunteer recognition dinner Saturday March 28th, 2009 at the Post House Ballroom. The evening will encompass cocktails, heavy hors d’ oeuvres, entertainment and an auction of local business goodies. As part of the night’s theme, we are encouraging those attending to wear black and white.

The Black & White Martini Night will once again be getting an excellent act from Bass Entertainment. Last year, Dixon Main Street hosted Mentalist Chris Carter and this year’s entertainment will be just as spectacular.

Our stylish event kick’s off at 6 p.m. with warm hors d’ oeuvres and chilled cocktails- then onto our awards ceremony for our hard working volunteers at 7 p.m. After the awards, we will continue the evening with our entertainment and auction.

Dixon Main Street’s auction will include the Headline Sponsorship Spot for the 2nd Annual Dixon Main Street Golf Outing which will happen June 18th, 2009. But not to be outdone, tasty drink trays, desserts and donated items from Dixon businesses will also be auctioned.

Second Annual Home Show set for May 9!

The Dixon Main Street Home Show is scheduled for Saturday, May 9. In 2008, DMS held its first-ever Home Show in downtown Dixon. The show featured more than 40 vendors and had nearly 500 visitors come through to see the exhibits. The show will be held once again at Kitzmans Lumber, 411 W. First Street.

The one-day event will be from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. and we hope to have more than 40 vendors take part again this year. A wide variety of vendors participated last year, including banks, construction, real estate, painting, appliance, landscaping, utilities, home entertainment and much more. We are also looking to add live demonstrations this year so our visitors can learn how to do home improvement projects while visiting with vendors. And, to add some entertainment to the day, 3D Sound will be on-hand to pump music to the crowd all day long.

Booth spaces are available and cost $120 if you sign up before March 1. After March 1 the price per booth is $145. Main Street to head Reagan Trail Days

Starting in 2009, the annual Reagan Trail Days celebration will become part of Dixon Main Street’s calendar of events. The change comes as the event that honors President Ronald Reagan has grown too large for the Reagan Trail Days committee to plan alone.

Bill Wadsworth, Reagan Trail Days committee member and former chairman, said the Reagan Trail Days is excited to have Dixon Main Street assume leadership of the event with a membership dedicated not only to the Dixon downtown but to the community as a whole.

"The Reagan Trail Days committee has expanded its leadership base by turning over management of the event to Dixon Main Street,” Wadsworth said. "Reagan Trail Days will continue its mission to honor President Reagan, and Dixon as his hometown.”

After serving on the Reagan Trail Days committee in 2008, Dixon Main Street executive director Josh Albrecht is excited about Main Street’s new role in leading the Reagan Trail Days activities.

“We are truly honored to have been asked to lead this great community event,” Albrecht said. “The downtown is where Ronald Reagan went to church, to the library and to shop. And just a short walk up Reagan Way takes you to his boyhood home. Our involvement with an event celebrating his life is natural.”

During the past eight years, the Reagan Trail Days has grown steadily. The RTD Committee has developed a great connection to the U.S.S. Ronald Reagan aircraft carrier and members of its crew and the Navy band. It also has developed the annual honoring of Dixon High School graduates, the Reagan Legacy Award, pontoon rides at Lowell Park, Jelly Belly contests, trolley tours and much, much more.

“Dixon Main Street will work with the RTD committee members to ensure that all the great traditions are continued in 2009 and beyond,” Albrecht said. “This past year, Main Street helped to organize the first Thai Festival as part of the Reagan Trail Days events, and we hope to bring more activities to this wonderful community celebration.”

The 2009 Reagan Trail Days events are already being planned for August 14-16 and regular committee meetings will begin in January. Main Street is looking for more volunteers to help with the event, so those interested in joining the committee should contact Albrecht at 815-288-2308 or email him at mainst@grics.net.

Musical Fridays Thank You

Dixon Main Street would like to thank everyone who came out to the Musical Fridays Concert Series this summer in downtown Dixon. The concerts were held every Friday from June 6 – August 29. Each week a different musical act was featured which brought a great variety to the downtown. Thanks to all of the musicians that helped make the event possible, as well. Of course, like most Main Street events, the volunteers and sponsors were the ones that made it happen and this event had some great ones. Volunteers Joni Ehnen and Mitch Tucker were instrumental in the execution of the event each week, scheduling the bands and helping to set up picnic tables. Several other volunteers helped at different times throughout the summer and we thank all of those people for their dedication to Main Street. Thanks also to the Dixon Park District for the use of their picnic tables, to KSB Hospital for their space just outside of the Town Square Center and to the Dixon Chamber of Commerce for their sound-system. Finally, a huge thanks to our sponsors, Wal-Mart, Kitzman’s Lumber, C&N Supply, Mama Cimino’s and Now Care Clinic. The tremendous support from the downtown business community was also greatly appreciated. Main Street strives to provide great opportunities within the downtown and this was another great program for businesses, residents and visitors alike.

Scarecrow Festival is Sept. 27

Dixon Main Street will host the 13th Annual Scarecrow Festival on Saturday, Sept. 27. The day features a wide variety of activities for the whole family. Starting at 10 a.m., the festival will feature pumpkin painting, flower pot painting and kids’ games. During the festival parts of First Street and Hennepin Avenue will be closed to traffic.

“Last year, the flower pot painting and the pumpkin painting were both huge hits,” Josh Albrecht, Dixon Main Street executive director said. “We knew that those are now highlights that we needed to bring back.”

Also back this year will be the Bean Bag Tournament. First Street Pub will host the tournament and two age divisions will be available: 18 and over and 21 and over. Prizes will be awarded and sign-up is being held at First Street Pub and Sherwin-Williams.

New this year will be a Chalk the Walk event where kids can color a section of the downtown sidewalks with chalk. The Chalk the Walk goes from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. and is free. Registration will be the day of the event.

“All of the events downtown during Scarecrow Festival are very affordable and family-friendly,” Albrecht said. “We want this to be an enjoyable day for everyone.”

Another new element this year is the historic Dixon Theatre’s Acoustic Jam. From noon to 8 p.m. a variety of acoustic acts will perform in 20-minute increments. The theatre is currently looking for acts to participate in the Acoustic Jam. Those interested should call Tom at 815-973-4318. Admission to the Acoustic Jam is $5 and the concert-goers will be able to come and go all day long so that they can enjoy all the aspects of the festival.

The day continues in the afternoon with a car show starting at 3 p.m. The show will be at the corner of First Street and Ottawa Avenue and will feature music by 3D Sound. Anyone with a classic car is invited to come down for the event. There is no admission charge. For more information about the car show, call 815-288-2308.

The day ends with the new Scarecrow Festival tradition of the Progressive Walk. This year there are two walks to choose from. Walk A features the downtown bars and will food will be served by downtown restaurants and Walk B features the downtown restaurants and coffee shops. Both walks begin at 5 p.m. and finish after 9 p.m. Tickets are $35 per person or $60 per couple. Space is limited and reservations are required by calling 815-288-2308.

“The Progressive Walks are a fun way to experience a lot of the downtown in just one night. Plus, getting to sample all the great food and drink makes the evening very memorable,” Albrecht said.

White Striped Rock to play Musical Fridays

White Striped Rock will perform in downtown Dixon on Friday, July 18 as part of Dixon Main Street’s 13 Fridays Lunch-time Concert Series. The concert will be held at the Town Square Center on First Street, begins at 12 p.m. and is free and open to all.

“The concert series gets a taste of acoustic Rock and Roll this week with White Striped Rock,” Executive Director Josh Albrecht said. “We have been thrilled with the turnout so far this year for our concerts and we expect them to continue growing until the end of summer.”

This Friday also will feature Sidewalk Sales from 11 a.m. – 6 p.m. and a Cruise Night from 4 p.m. – 8 p.m. at the Wermer’s Parking Lot of the corner of First Street and Peoria Avenue.

This year, 13 total concerts are planned for the series, with the final act on Friday, August 29. Main Street Board members Joni Ehnen and Mitch Tucker were instrumental in planning for this year’s concert series.

Illinois to host National Main Street Conference

SPRINGFIELD – The 25th Annual National Main Streets Conference will come to Illinois for the first time in 2009, bringing thousands of committed volunteers, developers and community organizers from across the nation to the Land of Lincoln.

“This is an exciting opportunity for the state of Illinois to showcase its diverse and vibrant downtown districts that so many dedicated Main Street volunteers have worked so hard to create,” said Lt. Governor Pat Quinn, Chairman of the Illinois Main Street Advisory Council. “This conference will bring together motivated people from across the United States to share ideas, communicate successful strategies and help promote technology as a tool to enhance historic downtown districts across the country.”

Illinois Main Street and the National Trust for Historic Preservation will co-host the National Main Streets Conference, which will take place March 1-4, 2009 at the Palmer House Hilton hotel in Chicago. Attendees will engage in more than 60 educational sessions, workshops, social networking events, and local and regional tours.

The conference theme, “Becoming Main Street 2.0” will equip professionals and volunteers involved in preservation-based economic development and revitalization with the technological tools necessary to succeed in the 21st century. Workshops will explore the many different ways to use technology to manage revitalization programs by engaging constituents, developing social networking on Main Street, recruiting volunteers, generating e-commerce and monitoring financial records.

"We expect record crowds at the National Main Streets Conference this year because from coast to coast, main streets matter to people,” said Doug Loescher, Director of the National Trust Main Street Center.

“Chicago provides the ideal meeting point for Main Street professionals from across the country to take community revitalization to a new level by leveraging emerging technologies to engage residents and their business sectors. With our strong partnership with Illinois Main Street, we are excited to showcase outstanding success stories from across the state."

Loescher announced that Chicago would host the 2009 Main Streets Conference during the closing session of the April 2008 conference in Philadelphia, which drew more than 1,600 attendees. Illinois Main Street staff, local executive directors and volunteers built excitement for the 2009 Chicago conference with a trade show booth featuring the sights, sounds and smells of “Sweet Home Chicago.”

Illinois Main Street also invited the Philadelphia crowd to Chicago with a video themed after the famous Blues Brothers movie. The clip follows Jake and Elwood as they embark on a 761-mile trip from Philadelphia to Chicago, passing through Main Street towns like Alton, Springfield and Batavia along the way. Illinois Main Street represents one of the state’s most effective public-private partnerships for economic development and community renewal. Since its inception, designated communities have reported net gains of more than 1,600 new downtown businesses and created more than 6,000 new full- and part-time jobs. The Main Street program has spurred the reinvestment of more than $576 million in Main Street downtowns.

Illinois is one of 40 states participating in the National Main Street program, administered through the National Trust for Historic Preservation. The Lt. Governor’s Office administers the Illinois Main Street program, now the fourth largest in the nation, with architectural assistance from the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency.

Several upcoming events are planned for Main Street.

13 Fridays Lunchtime Concert Series – the new downtown Dixon tradition kicks-off on June 6 with Robbie Leblanc. Come downtown for free music from 12 p.m. – 1 p.m. each Friday throughout the summer. Look for the complete list of bands in the coming weeks.

Progressive Restaurant Walk – The Restaurant Walk will be held on Saturday, June 7 beginning at 5:30 p.m. There are only 52 tickets available for this event, which features a tour of downtown eateries and drinkeries. Each stop on the tour is a different course of the meal – from cocktails to appetizers to the main course to desert. Enjoy this great way to experience downtown Dixon. Cost is $35 per person or $60 per couple.

GOLF OUTING – Thursday, June 12 will be the First Annual Main Street Golf Outing presented by Fifth Third Bank. The outing is at Timber Creek Golf Course in Dixon. Details are in the attached flyer. Many of the sponsorships have already been taken but a few $100 hole sponsorships and $50 program sponsorships remain. We also have foursomes still available and the evening dinner reception that will feature Cuban foods and salsa dancers for entertainment.

First Annual Main Street Golf Outing is June 12

The Dixon Main Street is planning its First Annual Golf Outing Presented by Fifth Third Bank for June 12 at Timber Creek Golf Club. The outing will have a shotgun start at 1 p.m. and lunch will be served at noon. The event will be a scramble-style competition, with the winning team being immortalized with a plaque at the golf club. Foursomes are $240 or $65 for individual golfers.

The event is co-chaired by Kris Kline of Greensfield Investment Group and Josh Johnson, golf pro at Timber Creek. Dixon Main Street is honored to have new Dixon Police Chief Dan Langloss as the Honorary Chair of the event, too. The event is held to help fund the variety of programs and events that Dixon Main Street offers throughout the year, including the Scarecrow Festival, Christmas Walk, Founders’ Day and much more.

"We are certainly excited about the 1st Annual Main Street Golf Outing and are working hard to ensure that the tournament offers a fun-filled day at Timber Creek Country Club. Our goal is to create a tournament that offers something for all skill levels and build upon what become a wonderful annual event to support our Dixon Main Street organization,” said Kline.

After the golfing, the event also will feature a dinner reception and silent auction at 6 p.m.. The dinner will be themed “Havanna Nights,” with Cuban food and music featured at the event. The dinner includes jerk-spiced chicken, chipotle-cheddar potatoes and much more. Dinner tickets can be purchased separate from the golf outing and cost $25 per person or $45 per couple.

“The generosity of Fifth Third Bank to be our presenting sponsor is just magnificent. The anticipation for this event has been building during the past few weeks, and we already have several sponsorships and foursomes taken,” said Josh Albrecht, Dixon Main Street executive director.

Cinco de Mayo to be held May 3

The second annual Cinco de Mayo Fiesta will be held on Saturday, May 3 from 12 p.m. – 9 p.m. in downtown Dixon. During the celebration, First Street will be closed between Galena Ave. and Hennepin Ave. After a very successful first year in 2007, Salamandra Restaurant agreed to help continue the tradition for the city of Dixon by helping to present the fiesta again in 2008 with co-sponsor Dixon Main Street.

“Dixon Main Street is excited to co-sponsor the Second Annual Cinco de Mayo celebration again this year with Salamandra,” Executive Director Josh Albrecht said. “Last year was a huge success, and it is great for our community to celebrate the cultural diversity of our city.”

This year’s event features plenty of entertainment, including Mariachi Juvenil San Francisco, Ballet Folkloric Imagen Mexicana and Ballet Folkloric Ay! Jalisco. There also will be piñatas and games for kids.

And to top it off, a variety of Mexican food will be featured, including 20 different salsas created by salsa master and Salamandra owner Juana Ayala. An outdoor beer garden will be featured, along with a variety of specialty margaritas.

Dixon Main Street will host its 2008 House and Home Show from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. on April 18 and April 19 at Kitzman’s Lumber, 411 W. 1st Street, Dixon. The event is sponsored by Kitzman’s Lumber, Sherwin-Williams and Hvarre Painting. The event is free and open to the public.

“This event is perfect for Main Street because there is nothing like it in Dixon,” Mitch Tucker, Sherwin Williams Market Manager and Main Street Board Member, said. “Plus, many people don’t realize how many businesses in the downtown provide services for home owners.”

The two-day event will feature booths by area painters, contractors, businesses, realtors, landscapers and other service professionals. The community will get the chance to learn more about the services and products these professionals provide.

“This is the first time that Dixon Main Street has held an event like this, and we couldn’t be more excited,” Josh Albrecht, Dixon Main Street executive director, said. “There is no better time to hold a House and Home Show than in the early spring as people begin to work in their gardens and plan for home improvement projects.”

Main Street Honors Volunteers at Martini Night

Dixon Main Street hosted its annual volunteer recognition night on Saturday, March 29, 2008 at the Post House Ballroom. More than 140 people turned out for the event, which featured an amazing show by mentalist Christopher Carter and music by The Real Live Band. The evening also featured our annual awards ceremony for our outstanding volunteers. This year’s honorees were:

First Annual Founders' Day Celebration!

The Dixon Main Street and the Loveland Community House and Historical Museum will host the first annual Founders' Day / Father John Day from 6:30 p.m – 10 p.m. on Friday, April 11 at the Loveland Museum. The celebration falls on the same day (April 11, 1830) that John Dixon, the namesake and founder of the city of Dixon, settled near what is now the corner of First Street and Peoria Avenue in downtown Dixon.

“Our community’s history begins in our downtown. Father John settled on the banks of the Rock River and the city grew up around his settlement,” Josh Albrecht, executive director of Dixon Main Street said. “Honoring the man who gave birth to our downtown and our city seemed like a marvelous way for Dixon Main Street to promote our history.”

Partnering with Main Street for the Father John Day festivities will be the Loveland Community House and Museum, which houses numerous artifacts that belong to Father John Dixon and other settlers. Sponsors for the event include the The Telegraph, WIXN, Carebear’s Popcorn, Treats and More, The Good Book and the John Deere Historical Site.

“The volunteers that dedicate their time to the Loveland Museum are walking encyclopedias on the history of Dixon,” said Albrecht. “They were a great choice to help bring our community’s history alive.”

The Father John Day event will be held at the Loveland House and Museum, 513 West Second Street, Dixon, and will begin at 6:30 p.m. with a social hour and free tours of the Loveland Museum. Carebear’s will provide free popcorn and ice cream. Melodious Thunk will perform jazz music and Rick Trahan, the John Deere Blacksmith will be on hand to talk about the John Deere site. At 7:30 p.m. the featured program about John Dixon’s life presented by Loveland volunteers and local relatives of John Dixon will begin. The presentations will be about Dixon’s acts of heroism, family tragedy, his wife, why he wasn’t a rich man, why he didn’t join a church and his relationship with the Indians. After the program, the museum will remain open for tours and volunteers will be on hand to talk about Dixon and the Loveland Museum.

“Many towns have founders, but in most cases their relatives didn’t remain in the area,” Loveland Museum curator Fran Swarbrick said. “Dixon is lucky to have had a great founder whose family is still active in the community today.”

RJ Gabaldon named 2007 Ambassador of the Year

Dixon Main Street Board Member RJ Gabaldon was selected as the 2007 Dixon Chamber Ambassador of the year for 2007. The Dixon Chamber Ambassadors club is a group of Dixon Chamber members who handle different functions on behalf of the chamber. They serve as a welcoming committee for new Dixon Chamber members by facilitating a formal ribbon cutting at their place of business and also assist business owners whom host Chamber business after business parties by helping with their raffles & the hosting of their guests. The Ambassadors are very involved with offering time and resources with most non for profit activities and serve as the face of the Dixon Chamber from a goodwill standpoint with the residents and businesses of Dixon. RJ has been an instrumental part of the Ambassadors through all of his hard work and dedication to the organization. He has been a member since September, 2006. Congratulations RJ!!

Dixon Main Street will host its annual volunteer recognition night on Saturday, March 29, 2008 at the Post House Ballroom. This year’s theme is Black & White Martini Night and the evening will include cocktails, heavy hors d’oeuvres, entertainment and an auction. As part of the theme, those attending are encouraged to wear something black or white, ranging from business casual to black tie.

For our main entertainment, Main Street will host Christopher Carter. Carter, a mentalist, has performed for sold out audiences across the nation. The classy evening will begin at 6 p.m. with cocktails and heavy hors d’oeuvres until 7 p.m. After the awards ceremony at 7 p.m., Carter will take the stage with his amazing show. To wrap up the evening of fun, Robbie LeBlanc and his band, The Real Live Show will play music from the ’80s and ’90s.

The evening also will include an auction with a new twist, as Main Street will auction off the Headline Sponsorship Spot and a foursome of golf to the first ever Dixon Main Street Golf Outing that will be held on June 12. House and Home Show Coming Soon

Dixon Main Street will host its 2008 House and Home Show from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. on April 18 and April 19 at Kitzman’s Lumber, 411 W. 1st Street, Dixon. The event is sponsored by Kitzman’s Lumber, Sherwin-Williams, Hvarre Painting, and Burke Realty. The event is free and open to the public.

“This event is perfect for Main Street because there is nothing like it in Dixon,” Mitch Tucker, Sherwin Williams Market Manager and Main Street Board Member, said. “Plus, many people don’t realize how many businesses in the downtown provide services for home owners.”

The two-day event will feature booths by area painters, contractors, businesses, realtors, landscapers and other service professionals. The community will get the chance to learn more about the services and products these professionals provide. Booth spaces are still available and cost $100. To reserve a space, call the Dixon Main Street office at 815-288-2308.

“This is the first time that Dixon Main Street has held an event like this, and we couldn’t be more excited,” Josh Albrecht, Dixon Main Street executive director, said. “There is no better time to hold a House and Home show than in the early spring as people begin to work in their gardens and plan for home improvement projects.”

Jumping into 2008

Our mission statement is simple: To foster a spirit of community teamwork and to strengthen, revitalize, and broaden the economic base of the community area, while improving the appearance of the downtown area, and promoting and marketing Dixon as a vibrant place to visit, work, shop, play and live. This mission is ongoing, but the successes have been bountiful. From the Scarecrow Festival to the Christmas Walk to the Reagan 5K to the new House and Home Show, our events help to foster pride in our community.

Below you will find some of Dixon Main Street’s highlights from 2007.
> The 285-Eats and 285-Pubs numbers generated a lot of interest for downtown restaurants and pubs. With just a quick phone call, residents can find out about food specials and events that are going on.
> The new outdoor dining ordinance was created and supported by Dixon Main Street to provide more options for restaurant owners and consumers.
> Concerts in the Square was held each Friday in the summer and was a wonderful shot in the arm showcasing just how quaint and sophisticated Downtown Dixon is. Seeing the buzz downtown, with the music, the pretty landscape of our summer streets and the restaurants all filled. It was inspiring!
> Scarecrow Fest had record attendance. The addition of the restaurant walk was so successful that several more are to be held this year.
> The first-ever Saturday Christmas Walk was held, and it was a very big success.
> The Lunch and Learn program is a wonderful way to spend a lunch hour and a nice social hour as well.
> With the help of the City, Phase 1 of the Way Finding signs became a reality! The signs have been on the Workplan for a number of years. This year, the Design Committee finalized the report and submitted it to the City. With City funds and personnel, the signs were installed this summer. Phase 2 will be presented to the City in February 2008.
> We held a downtown cleanup. About 20 volunteers gathered, in the rain, to fill an entire dumpster.
> The P.RI.D.E. Award – Private Reinvestment In Downtown Excellence, is given to a Main Street business that has revitalized their property. They are given an award and public recognition.

And for 2008 we already have new events and projects planned as we continue our traditional events and programs.
> Dixon Fresh Facade Incentive Program.
> 2008 Dixon Main Street Golf Outing in June.
> A market analysis of the downtown.
> The House and Home Show in April.
